Defiance Track in WBLs

On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the boys’ and girls’ track teams went to Wapakoneta for WBLs. The WBLs finals race will take place this Friday, May 12, 2023, back in Wapak.

Many girls on the team qualified for finals. The 4×2, 4×4, and 4×1 all finished with qualifying spots and will run again on Friday. The girls 4×8 also qualified for the finals with a final push coming in the last leg of the race by Layla Briseno.

Briseno got her PR and passed another team in the final push of the race. “I’ve been working hard towards my PR all year and I’m so happy that I finally achieved it, especially in a meet as important as WBLs.”

Mira Horvath is also headed to finals for the 400-meter race on Friday. Horvath is ranked third in the WBL and first in the district.

Sam Hohenberger and Regan Rigg placed in the top spots in the 300-meter hurdles.

The boys’ team also had multiple qualifiers. There were both relays and solos that qualified.

Both the 4×1 and 4×2 teams will be competing again on Friday afternoon. Anthony Wilder also qualified for the 100 and 200-meter dash.

Luke Westfall, a long jumper, placed third at WBLs where there are no finals on Friday.

Both teams head to Wapak on Friday for finals and take on districts next week. The boys track team stays home next Wednesday the 17th and Friday the 19th. The girls’ team will head to Findlay High School on Thursday the 18th and Saturday the 20th.
